FOR COUPLES
Therapy and Counseling
Work with marital therapists, Drs. Phyllis Koch-Sheras and Peter Sheras, to explore the issues in your relationship. Couples may be seen by Peter or Phyllis or by both of them together. Some health insurance is accepted.
Regular Sessions
The initial session is one hour and includes a thorough assessment of your couple related to the Four C’s in the Couple Power model. Subsequent sessions, weekly, bi-weekly or monthly, are either 45 or 60 minutes in length, depending on the needs of each couple. Sessions take place at our offices in downtown Charlottesville, Virginia.
Intensives
Spend a weekend alone doing intensive work with Phyllis and Peter dealing with your couple’s issues. We will schedule sessions for two days and an evening either in Charlottesville at our downtown offices or in a setting in your hometown. Be prepared to work hard, though there will be breaks for fun and engaging activities throughout the weekend.
Couples Group Therapy
Dr. Phyllis and Dr. Peter lead a 75-minute group for a select number of couples in committed relationships. The group meets twice a month at our office on the downtown mall in Charlottesville. The power of sharing in a community of couples creates lasting results in a short period of time. Members share about themselves, and experience the power of community in being with other couples on a regular basis. All material is confidential.
Sex Therapy
Drs. Phyllis and Peter are also available to work on sexual issues in your relationship. An initial evaluation is followed by a prescribed program of homework exercises and coaching in communication and sex education.Consultation and Coaching
Work on a specific issue with Doctors Phyllis and Peter by phone or in person. Regular sessions following therapy, a workshop or intensive may be held in person or by phone. Phone coaching may also be a prelude to a longer meeting.
Workshops:
“Creating Lifelong Love Using the Four C’s of Couple Power”
Imagine being in a relationship based on honoring a commitment rather than figuring out what’s wrong. Imagine being part of a supportive, trusting community of couples.
Discover the powerful impact of Couple Power, a joint force that allows your couple to take on the conflicts and problems of life together in a new way, a “couple way,” creating more energy, love and personal satisfaction than two individuals can ever do alone. The cornerstone of the Couple Power approach is the power of commitment to a joint vision for “the couple as an entity,” giving birth to a new whole that is greater than the sum of its parts.
Join a small group of couples to work together on creating and fulfilling the possibility of lifelong love in your life. This workshop will teach you how to go beyond your own limits and create a profoundly fulfilling relationship. Using the Four C’s of Commitment, Cooperation, Communication and Community, you will learn how to achieve and maintain the relationship you really want and how to make it last.

FOR PROFESSIONALS
What can be accomplished when we approach relationships based on what is possible, not what is wrong?
--Do you get stuck in couples therapy being a referee in arguments between partners?
--Do you want to have something truly effective to offer clients in distress in their relationship?
Drs. Sheras and Koch-Sheras provide workshops and consultation for professionals based on their breakthrough model of Couple Power described in their book Couple Power Therapy: Building Commitment, Cooperation, Communication and Community in Relationships (APA Press, 2006).
Couple Power Therapy (CPT) will give you a distinctive edge in the field of couples work. CPT challenges standard conceptions about couples with a new paradigm based upon envisioning and co-creating new possibilities for the couple as an entity. Moving beyond the common focus of individualism, CPT helps therapists and couples acquire the view of “couplism,” looking at what is possible for the relationship as a whole not just meeting one’s individual needs.
The Four C’s model of CPT generates a supportive environment for building joyful relationships and lifelong love. Using the Four C’s of commitment, cooperation, communication and community, professionals are able to go beyond traditional theories and communication techniques to help clients create lifelong love and a powerful future together. Incorporating principles of community building and support, CPT presents a model for working with couples that makes communication skills training powerful when used appropriately at the right time and place.
